The Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) is the recognized standard for measuring an individual’s ability to handle the physical demands of being a firefighter in California. The timed test measures how candidates handle eight separate events, all designed to mirror the on-the-job tasks of an entry-level firefighter. The Redevelopment Authority, as a redevelopment authority in a County of the Second Class A, is authorized under the Pennsylvania Race Horse and Development Gaming Act of 2004, as reenacted and amended by the Act of October 30, 2017, P.L.

Verification of this certificate must be sent via email to DHR- Candidates must be able to accredit with the local EMS Authority within the one-year probationary period. Candidates who currently hold an EMT-1 certificate issued by the National Registry may find information about transferring EMT certification to CA. For this recruitment, applicants may use either the a) FireTEAM Testing System administered by the National Testing Network (NTN) or the b) Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Written Test. The Fremont Fire Department, in partnership with California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (Cal-JAC), utilizes the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) for the selection process. All candidates MUST have a completed profile and be placed on the Statewide Eligibility List (SEL) to be considered for the positions of Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter/Paramedic. Candidates will then have 2.5 hours to complete 100 multiple choice questions.

Applicants who proceed to the Medical Examination will be required to complete a Medical History Statement. Any misrepresentation by an applicant on the Medical History Statement as determined by the Chief of the Fire Department will result in disqualification. Candidates invited to a Preliminary Panel Interview will be required to complete a secondary criteria questionnaire to be considered for a Command Staff Interview. Pass the FCTC Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)

Candidates must pass the FCTC Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) that includes an agility and strength test. The CPAT card must have a completion date of less than a year from the time of the job offer. Candidates must possess a valid CPAT card at the time of their preliminary interview panel. Candidates that attain passing scores on the FireTEAM Testing System administered by the National Testing Network (NTN) or the b) Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Written Test will be invited to an Oral Interview. Once funding is exhausted, applicants will be wait-listed in the event additional funding becomes available. The Firefighter Candidate Testing Centers — formerly the CPAT Testing Centers — were established in 2004 by the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (Cal-JAC).

• Candidates that are selected into the H2 Firefighter Recruit academy should be prepared for a 20-week arduous process to evaluate their proficiency to meet the minimum standards of the San Francisco Fire Department.

The Cal-JAC — a joint labor-management partnership between California Professional Firefighters and the California State Fire Marshal — is the established leader in recruitment, outreach and standardized training programs for firefighters in California. Preliminary Panel Interviews

The Redevelopment Authority anticipates application review and closing within five (5) business days of approval with loan proceeds disbursed after execution of a loan agreement and any other required documents.

The first round of applications will be strictly targeted to qualified businesses with a physical location in an MGP eligible municipality (listed below). After April 3, 2020, any future application rounds will be open to qualified businesses anywhere in Bucks County. All medical conditions will be evaluated individually by the Office of Employee Health to determine the applicant’s fitness for employment as a Firefighter.

Candidates offered a conditional or alternate job offer will proceed to a background investigation and medical examination by SFFD personnel. During the test, candidates wear a helmet, gloves and 50-lb weighted vests, designed to simulate the weight of firefighter personal protective equipment. The Oral Interview will assess knowledge and awareness of San Francisco’s diverse communities, interest and motivation for public service and public safety, interpersonal skills, problem solving, oral communication skills and abilities not tested by other examination components. The Oral Interview will also assess for knowledge and understanding of the diversity of San Francisco, its population, hazards, community, and of the San Francisco Fire Department. The Oral Interview score will be used to place candidates on the eligible list.

Grants from Pennsylvania Gaming Revenues are authorized by the Board of Directors of the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Bucks, under the Municipal Grant Program created by the Act from language introduced by Senator Robert M. The general knowledge test evaluates candidates’ ability to think critically and process information and is specifically tailored to the job of an entry-level firefighter in California. Following a provisional offer of employment, applicants will be required to pass a medical examination given by the Office of Employee Health. Provisional offers of employment will be extended only to those applicants who are likely to be selected for appointment to the Fire Academy. FCTC maintains a list of eligible candidates that is used by over 160 California fire departments in their hiring processes. Candidates on the SEL are considered for employment by fire agencies across the state.
